About the name
In ancient times, a talent was a both a measure of money and a coin of high value. A single gold talent as
a measure of money weighed about 75 lbs and was worth an estimated $660K (in today's world).
10 Talents Consulting takes its name from a story told by Jesus Christ in the New Testament about a business
owner and 3 subordinates. Each subordinate was given a different amount of resources by the owner to create a return
on investment. The one who was given 5 talents wisely invested and used it to double the amount...consequently
this one was highly esteemed and rewarded when the owner returned.
10 Talents Consulting is designed to come along side individuals and organizations who have the desire, courage
and commitment to steward their resources in similar fashion. This requires hard work; gathering, processing and integrating
facts and information; and taking appropriate risks to break free of status quo thinking and practices.

The History
10 Talents Consulting was established in September 2006...but was conceived of 28 years earlier as the
founder was assigned the job of preparing a strategic plan. That first plan catapulted the Coast Guard Admiral
who directed it to become the Commandant...the service's top officer. Throughout Tim's military career, he was
assigned to lead numerous other strategic planning efforts that resulted in some profound outcomes, for both
the Coast Guard and for his career. In addition to his consulting and planning assignments, he also served as the commanding
officer of two shore units and was selected to be the Special Assistant to the U.S. Secretary of Transportation. In
his final assignment, he was the resource director for the Pacific Area Commander...the Coast Guard 3-star Admiral in charge
of the entire Pacific Rim.
In 1997, he took his consulting skills to a new level and began a pro bono consulting practice with Puget
Sound area organizations. He started with a church, then some community-based organizations, and then a business.
He worked with schools, two camps and conference centers, several retirement communities, an international relief and
development organization, three radio stations, an adoption agency, more churches and additional non-profit organizations. The
demand for his services mushroomed to the point in 2005 that he began charging for services and in 2006, 10 Talents Consulting
was born. In early 2007, he resigned his day job as the chief operating officer of CRISTA Ministries, the
second largest non-profit in the state of Washington (and 84th largest in the U.S.) to focus his attention on
consulting work.
